5 States Where People Need to Watch Out for Predatory Title Loans

5 States Where People Need to Watch Out for Predatory Title Loans 5 States Where People Need to Watch Out for Predatory Title Loans 5 States Where People Need to Watch Out for Predatory Title LoansTitle loans are illegal in many states, but where they are allowed they can all too easily trap borrowers into a predatory cycle of high-interest debt. When it comes to taking out a bad credit loan or no credit check loan, your options are going to depend on where you live. These small-dollar cash advance products are regulated at the state levelâ€"with municipal governments occasionally adding their own regulations on top! Now, not all bad credit loans are dangerous. Some, like bad credit installment loans  in particular, can be a great way to bridge financial shortfalls or cover an unforeseen bill. But one of the most dangerous kinds of no credit check loans, ones that you should do everything in your power to avoid, are title loans. These loans are secured by the title to your car or truck, which means that failing to pay the loan back will almost certainly result in your vehicle being repossessed! Title loans also come with ludicrously high interest rates, which can leave borrowers stuck between a rock and a hard place. But that’s why we’re here! We did some digging to find the areas in the U.S. where predatory title lenders tend to thrive. And if you live in one of these five states, make sure you do everything you can to avoid taking out a risky, expensive title loan. They’re just not worth it!1. AlabamaAlabama is quite the hunting ground for predatory car title lenders. With no restrictions on maximum loan limits and annual percentage rates (APRs) as high as 300 percent, it’s a place where they can make a lot of money. By one estimate, Alabama title lenders rake in over $356 million per year in fees.Maybe this is why Alabama has more title loan locations than any other state in the union. With a total of 627 locations, there is one title loan issued in Alabama for every 5,427 residents. Even in other states where predatory title lending runs rampant, you won’t see numbers like that.Ti tle lenders in Alabama are classified as pawnbrokers, which means that their loans are subject to the state’s Pawn Shop Act. As such, title loans are made for an initial 30-day term with a maximum interest rate of 25 percent. If the lender doesn’t receive payment within that 30-day period, another 30-day redemption period begins. Customers are faced with paying an additional interest fee to roll over the loan or have their car repossessed and sold to pay their debt. According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), one in five title loan borrowers has their vehicle repossessed.Lastly, Alabama is one of the two states in the whole country (the other being Georgia) where lenders are allowed to keep all the proceeds from the sale of a repossessed vehicle. So if the vehicle being sold nets more than the borrower owed on their loan, they’re out of luck. To learn more about predatory lending in the  state, check out our subprime report on payday and title lending in Alaba ma.2. MississippiThere may not be nearly as many title loan locations in Mississippi as there are in neighboring Alabama (355 storefronts to 672), but Mississippi title lenders still seem to do pretty well for themselves to the tune of over $297 million in fees per year.Title lending in Mississippi was greatly expanded in 2016 when the Mississippi Senate passed a bill allowing payday lenders and check cashing stores to offer car title loans as well. According to data from the Center for Responsible Lending and the Consumer Federation of America, there are 73,867 title loans issued annually in the state, which comes out to 208 loans per location. In the state of Mississippi, title loans are regulated under the Title Pledge Act, which sets a maximum loan amount of $2,500 and a maximum interest rate of 25 percent monthâ€"a rate comes out to 300 percent over the course of a full year.Under the Title Pledge Act, title loans in Mississippi are issued with a 30-day repayment term, and the b orrower can renew their loan term (i.e. get another 30 days to pay the loan back plus additional interest) if they pay 10 percent of the principal. That fee structure is one of the only positive things you’ll find regarding title loans in this state. Customers can still end up paying way more towards interest than the amount they originally borrowed, but requiring that these renewals go towards the principal loan amount helps slow the predatory debt cycleâ€"if only a little bit.The Center for Responsible Lending has also named Mississippi as one of the five states that together account for almost half of payday loan and title loan fees charged nationwide. In total, over $526 million in payday and title fees is drained from Mississippi borrowers annually. When you consider how many fewer people live in Mississippi compared to the other four states on that listâ€"Texas, California, Illinois, and Ohioâ€"the scope of the problem becomes clear. If you want to learn more about payday lend ing in Mississippi, check out our report on the state’s subprime lending industry.3. GeorgiaTitle loans in Georgia are a little more complicated than similar loans in Mississippi or Alabama. While title lenders in the state can charge a 25 percent monthly interest rate on their loan products, they can only do so for the first three months that the loan is outstanding. While Georgia title loans come with 30-day repayment terms, those terms can also be extended beyond that initial time frame. After three months, the monthly interest rate that title lenders can charge is cut in half, with a maximum charge of 12.5 percent per month. This means that title loans in Georgia come with a maximum APR of 187.5 percent. That’s much lower than the 300 percent APRs you’ll find on title loans in Alabama and Mississippi, but it still means that a borrower who took out a $1,000 title loan on their car would end up paying $1,875 in interest charges alone if they rolled it over for a full year.Plu s, there is still the threat of repossession. While title lenders in Georgia have to observe a 30-day grace period between when they repossess a vehicle during which the outstanding balance can be repaid, they still don’t have to share any proceeds with the original owner that exceed the amount owed. Oh, and they can also charge you a $250 fee for repossessing your vehicle. You can find out more in our Georgia subprime report.4. TexasOn the surface, title loans in Texas don’t seem to be that bad, as title lenders in the state are limited to a 10 percent monthly interest rate. While that works out to an APR of 120 percent, which is extremely highâ€"especially for a loan that’s secured by collateralâ€"it’s still a great deal less than the maximum APRs for title loans we talked about above. But there’s a loophole. While Texas auto title lenders have to observe a 10 percent cap on monthly interest, there are no caps to the amount of money they can charge in additional fees. This is why some title loans in the state have APRs as high as 1,000 percent!According to the Texas Fair Lending Alliance, there are no restrictions on how many times a Texas title loan can be rolled over (i.e. extended). However, a number of municipalities have moved to restrict or regulate title lending at the local level, including limiting the number of rollovers.Title loans drain over $432 million in fees from Texas borrowers every year. By exploiting multiple loopholes, these lenders have turned Texas into one of the largest title lending states in the entire nation. It really is the wild west of predatory lending. If you want to read more about payday and title lending in Texas, check out our subprime report for the state.5. VirginiaTechnically, Virginia shouldnt be on this list. Not because title lending isn’t a major problem there, but because it isn’t actually a stateâ€"it’s a commonwealth. Still, we guess we can make an exception.Like Georgia, Virginia title lenders have to abide by a sliding scale when it comes to charging interest. But whereas the Georgia scale is based on the length of time during which the loan is outstanding, Virginia’s is based on the amount that’s being borrowed.Title loans under $700 come with a maximum monthly interest charge of 22 percent while loans between $701 and $1,400 have a maximum monthly charge of 18 percent. And for title loans in Virginia with principals above $1,400, lenders can’t charge more than 15 percent a month. While this a small bit of a progress, it still means that title loans in Virginia come with APRs between 180 and 264 percent! And with a minimum loan term of four monthsâ€"with a maximum term of a yearâ€"this means that even the lowest rates really add up.A Virginian who borrowed $1,500 through a title loan would pay $900 in interest over four months and $2,700 over the course of a full year. Meanwhile, a Virginian who took out a $500 title loan would pay a minimum of $440 in interest and a m aximum of $1,320!With rates like that, it’s no surprise that these title loans can easily trap borrowers into a predatory cycle of debt, leaving them with the hard choice between forking over hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars in interest or having their vehicle repossessed.Check out our subprime report to find out more about payday and title lending in the stateâ€"sorry, “commonwealth”â€"of Virginia. And if you’re still curious about how title lending stacks up in other areas of the country, we suggest you also read our subprime reports for high-volume title lending states like Illinois, California, and Ohio. Here at the OppLoans Financial Sense blog, we like to help people steer clear of predatory loans. The Toms River High School East Child Stud Team - 1834 Words

The Toms River High School East Child Stud Team (CST) would like to provide comments and concerns relating to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), No Child Left Behind, and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 2004 requirement of assessments in public schools and that all students must participate, with the sole focus on the state of New Jerseys decision to use the PARCC. Specifically, considering the impact is has on students classified with learning disabilities. I would like to urge you to think about reevaluating the procedure of using the PARCC and other standardized tests that are geared to general education students to assess our students because it seems to be doing more harm than good. During the†¦show more content†¦To start, I would like to give examples of how this test is actually affecting the students. As the time for testing comes near, students come into the high school CST office daily talking about how anxious they are about having to participate in the test, even with testing accommodations put in place. One specific student, Ashley’, has been coming in regularly talking about how nervous she is about the test this year because last year her parents opted her out. This year, the school district has informed her not to do this and she knows that there is no possible way she will pass because he is in all special education (SE) classes. When he was informed that he did not have to pass and try his best because through her IEP she will be exempt from passing, she expressed that she is still upset about it. She feels that she has to do well on the test to prove that she is not dumb. She says that thinking about taking the test makes her sick to his stomach and she wants to skip those school days when the test is being administered. Just from speaking with her, it is easy to see that the scores she feels she will receive on this test are affecting her self-esteem. She does not understand why she has to take the test if she is exempt from passing. Ashley is not the only one to express concerns about taking the test.

Monkey Is A Classic 18th Century Chinese Folk Tale

Screenplays are meant to inspire the imagination and display a prevalent theme in an interactive and approachable manner. Monkey is a classic 16th century Chinese folk tale novel that mixes allegory, history, and satire into a chaotic but however meaningful adventure. As a combination of being a picaresque novel and a fold tale epic, magical realism is evident and plays a big role in the story. The allegorical nature of the characters and the anti-bureaucratic satire makes the novel more alluring and thus has made the story more enduring and popular. The vivid imagery and descriptions makes the story come alive as Hsuan Tsang, Tripitaka, ventures in his arduous travels to find the Buddhist scrolls and scriptures leading to eventual success†¦show more content†¦A pine-tree? Did you think I taught you in order that you might show off in front of other people† (Wu 27)? The novel serves as a dazzling combination of slapstick comedy, spiritual wisdom, and nonsense with prof undity. Particularly interesting is the metamorphosis of the Monkey or the symbolism of the Stone Monkey. This character change is noteworthy and would be a focal aspect of the screenplay. In the end, accomplishing the mission of reaching the scrolls back to China, Tripitaka and his three disciples get escorted to heaven by the eight Vajraparis. They all get promoted by Buddha himself as Tripitaka is now â€Å"Buddha of Precocious Merit,† Monkey is made to â€Å"Buddha Victorious in Strife,† and Pigsy is the â€Å"Cleanser of Altars.† In the beginning the Monkey is carved out of stone symbolizing his lack of being apprehensive and belittling fear. Because of how he was brought to existence his careless and reckless nature was brought about by how he was born with no family, especially parents. Due to his recklessness and misbehavior in Heaven, Monkey had to be trapped under the Mountain of five elements. This is particularly interesting as this entrapment serves as symbo lism of how Buddha is superior to man, and the need for the quest to enlightenment. However, a distinct change was evident as mentioned, â€Å"But fortunately, when the time of your retribution was ended, you turned your heart to the Great faith and your endeavor to theShow MoreRelatedPhili Literature3111 Words   |  13 Pagesby Pio Duran e. Paper on Population Control Free Essays

In early years human population and population growth has not been an issue. This is because of the variety of different environmental factors. Sickness and disease has played a large role in keeping human population under control since the beginning of time. We will write a custom essay sample on Paper on Population Control or any similar topic only for you Order Now It seemed that when a population would get over crowded an epidemic such as, the influenza or small pox would break out. This would drastically decrease the population enough that it would be under control again. Famine is another great controller of population. When a famine strikes an area only the few with enough food will be able to reproduce or even survive. An examination of world population control would not be complete with out including war. War also performs wonders at controlling population by murdering most men of child rearing age. In today†s day and age, with our current technology increases disease outbreak and famine (except in some 3rd world countries) is not much of a factor any more. War is not considered a valid population control method due to today†s â€Å"new† wars. Without the three largest population controllers much of a factor anymore population is free to run out of control. This provides us with an ever-increasing controversy; this is whether government or society should dictate family size. I believe that society can infringe indirect controls over family size, but these are considered more community norms as opposed to hard fast rules such as governments can set. Two examples will follow. First, we will look at our society. Yes, the USA†s turn to no child and one child families. This was caused by society. Society pushes Americans to have successful careers both male and female. There has been a switch from families to careers. This not providing Americans with the time or means for multiple children, but cutting the number down to one or none. Another example of society’s control, is the push in some Asian/Middle Eastern countries for a family†s first child to be male. Even when there is no government regulation many cultures push for your first child to be male. This forces families to abort females and even murder them once they have been born. Once again this is a society/cultural push not a mandated rule. These instances are what different societies have created for themselves, when included in one of these societies it is hard to say whether it is right or wrong. I will first address the aspect that government should not control family size. First of all, it is a natural and religious right to produce offspring. Breed, multiply and populate has been the belief since the beginning of time. The idea is to grow population so that our beliefs and way of life may be spread and passed on. Who is government to take these right away? Governmental control over family size goes against everything that the USA stands for. This would be an age-old idea called freedom. When a government starts dictating the kind and size of family a person can have. Almost all freedom is lost. Another topic briefly addressed above is the aborting and murdering of babies that aren†t male. A first hand example of this is China. China regulates or gives incentives to families that only produce one child. This is where the problem begins because most families want this child to be male. Male children are providers and will go out and join the working world. They will be â€Å"successful†. Many female babies are aborted once sex is determined. If sex is not determined before birth, once born many female babies are abandoned or destroyed. This showing the cruelty that government controlled family size will push people to. Government should control family size because in most instances the general population can not handle this for themselves. A prime example of this is our already over crowded inner cities. People with chemical addictions and no financial means are cranking out babies right and left. They have no means of providing for all of these children. Government currently provides for these under privileged children, that as cruel as it sounds, should not have been born. I have had a first hand example of this problem. A family friend in another state has adopted three crack babies from the same mother; this mother is also on welfare. This certain mother is by no means an exception. China is another example of why government needs to control population. Look at the current problems that they are faced with because in previous years they have done nothing. Left uncontrolled, population will snowball out of control. Government needs to be aware of the ever -increasing population growth problem. I believe that rather that mandating how many children a family can have. They should educate its population on different means of birth control and possibly start providing for free. Especially in this country a harsher penalties needs to be imposed for chemical dependent mothers that become baby factories. An education/management plan can be imposed allowing individuals the freedom to determine the number of children they desire to have. How to cite Paper on Population Control, Essay examples

Summer Reading Life Essay Example For Students

Summer Reading: Life Essay Life has whatever meaning you give it. It can mean the world or nothing at all. You only get one chance. They say that â€Å"Life is a story and to make yours a best seller. † What does that really mean? In â€Å"The Secret Life of Bees,† May who is a sister of the Boatwright’s writes a suicide letter that says, â€Å"It’s my time to die, and your time to live. Don’t mess it up. † May was a â€Å"Special Person† and she felt as if it were her time to die and relieve the burden she put on her sisters lives. We will write a custom essay on Summer Reading: Life specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now It was their time to live life to the fullest with no regrets. What does living life to the fullest mean to you? In the world there are many factors that limit people from living life to the fullest, for example Society or Religion. Maybe there is a girl that lives in a little town somewhere in this world and there’s a certain activity that she loves to do, but it goes against society or her religion. Sadly, this girl wants to fit in and do good things within her beliefs. In order to do these things she can’t partake in the activities she loves. She’s being limited from living her life to the fullest because she has to choose to either fit in or to do something she loves. In an excerpt in a poem by Abdul Wahab it states, â€Å"In heart everyone likes to live no matter in what conditions. This is the quirky charm of life none can deny. Suicide is not normal it is abnormal mental condition. It is forced upon and exceptional, one the beauties of life lie not only on possessions or in physical comforts, beauties of life lie even in thoughts in seeing, in listening, in feeling life produces a mysterious music out of whatever is the flute This quote relates back to May’s illness and desire for life. In my own life I have been limited to living my life to a certain degree. If it were completely up to me I would quit school and travel the world and learn about other cultures, but sadly I have to wait until after college because my parents want me to go to school first. But seriously, now that I truly think about it, I may not be doing everything I want to in this moment, but I may be doing something someone else is unable to. I am living life to degree of fullness I am able to in this moment. Tomorrow my degree of fullness may change, but only one person truly knows what is going to happen tomorrow and that is Heavenly Father. In conclusion what does living life to the fullest mean to you? Is it just a matter of living each day as a new person or the same person with new actions? May did everything and lived her life to the fullest. Some people around the world are unable to live their lives as they please, so if you have the freedom please take it, run and do everything your little heart desires. You are the author of this life so it’s about time you sit down, open to a new chapter and start writing.

How to Become a Bestselling Author Get on a Bestseller List

How to Become a Bestselling Author Get on a Bestseller List How to Become a Bestselling Author Get on a Bestseller List We know its your dream. Its almost every authors dreamto become a bestselling author- to have your name on a list indicating that people wanted to buy your book more than all the other books. It sounds great, right? But theres more to becoming a bestselling author than simply writing and publishing a book. There are steps you need to take both when writing your book and during the publishing process that will make the difference between landing yourself on a bestseller list and hardly selling books. As a bestselling author of 6 books, Ive got some tips to help you become one, too.Heres how to become a bestselling author:Decide which Bestseller list you want to be onWrite an amazing bookBuild your author platformMarket your book ASAPDecide between traditional or self-publishingBuild a launch teamCreate a strong launch planBecome a bestselling authorNOTE: We cover everything in this blog post and much more about the writing, marketing, and publishing process in our VIP Self-Publishing Prog ram- where we teach our students to become Amazon bestselling authors in 90 days!Learn more about it hereWhat is a bestseller list?A bestseller list is created by different publications indicating and recognizing the top selling books of a given time period in any given number of places.I think youve all heard of the New York Times Bestsellers list. This is by far the most popular list, but there are many other types of bestseller lists out there today.Types of bestseller listsNot all besteller lists are the same. Like I mentioned above, the New York Times Bestsellers list is among the most popular, but any publication can craft their own version of a bestseller list. And that means you, as an author, have more opportunitites than just one to become a bestselling author. After all, the term is bestselling author not just New York Times bestselling author. These are the most popular bestseller lists you can land on:New York Times Bestsellers ListPublishers Weekly Bestsellers ListAmazon Bestsellers ListUSA Today Bestsellers ListThe Wallstreet Journal Bestseller ListAre bestseller lists a lie?I cant continue with this blog post without touching on the controversary surrounding bestseller lists- espeically the New York Times bestseller list (but all of them are like this). Most of the bestseller lists you know about or hear about arent exactly all theyre cracked up to be.Ill explainWhen we hear or see the term bestseller list we automatically think that it encompasses all the books who had the most sales.Thats what best seller technically translates to.Theres only one problem.Bestseller lists (like the New York Times bestseller list) choose their own criteria for what constitutes a best seller and they dont only rely on book sales. For example, most lists only take into account the number of book sales in a very specific time period and from very specific places- and most of them dont count online book sales the same as in-store sales. What does this mean for you and yo ur desire to be on a bestseller list? While bestseller lists arent exactly a lie, they dont paint the whole picture. Someone who sells a lot of books right at launch and then nothing for a while can still make the New York Times bestseller listeven though they might sell far fewer books than someone else who just didnt have as many sales at once.Essentially, it means that becoming a New York Times bestseller is a great goal to have, but it doesnt mean that your book is any better than the millions of others out there. That being said, many of us love the title of becoming a bestseller, so Im here to walk you through how to do that in the way that makes the most sense for you.Benefits of being a bestselling authorEven if most of the popular bestseller lists arent necessarily fair, there are still some perks to becoming a bestselling author. Here are some benefits of landing your name on a bestseller list:The title. Theres really nothing that has quite as satisfying of a ring to it as be stselling author does. It makes you feel good and rightfully so! Its an accomplishment no matter how it happened and the confidence boost alone is enough of a reason to work hard to reach that goal. The credibility. People just take bestselling authors more seriously. Because theres some sort of proof that your book sold more, people think that means its better. When they feel that way about you being a bestselling author, theyre far more likely to respect you, your book, and anything else you put in front of them- like a business. It helps you sell more books. Just like I mentioned above, being a bestselling author increases credibility. That means people will buy your book simply because it has that title- even if theyre not quite sure who you are or whats in your book. Its a simple way to increase your book sales. Its easier to sell future books. Once you hit bestseller status once, you can then add that title to your future books. Because of the same reason I mentioned in the point above, people are more likely to buy your book because the public perceived a bestseller status as an indicator of a good book. You can charge more for non-author gigs. This includes if you want to be a speaker or any other side business connected to your book. Because you have that bestseller status, you can charge more. How to become a bestselling authorIf your heart is set on becoming a bestselling author and reaping all the rewards associated with it, we can help you get thereNo matter if you want to become a New York Times bestselling author or an Amazon bestselling author, weve got you covered.#1 Decide which bestseller list you want to get onThis will ultimately define which path you follow to get published. Our list above details a couple bestseller lists you can aim to get on, or you can shoot for all of them if youre really ambitious. Here at Self-Publishing School, we teach our students how to excel in becoming Amazon bestselling authors in order to gain authority, increase your books rankings on the #1 platform for book sales in the world, and ultimately, sell more of their books. Its up to you to determine if you want to get on one, two, or even all of the bestseller lists available.#2 Write an amazing bookObviously, your book is important. Social Issues and Friendship Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

Social Issues and Friendship - Essay Example We promised each other we would talk every day keep up on each other’s lives and try as much to convince our parents to allow us to visit each other over the holidays. It all seemed easy enough and our friendship was going to last forever. Little did we know fate had completely different paths for us. Ideally, Melanie and her family were supposed to come back after two years once her mother’s work contract was over. But once those two years were over, they did not return and by then I was headed to college. We tried to keep in touch but it proved challenging as I was overwhelmed with studies and extra-curricular activities. We had not managed to visit each other during the two years and she seemed to also be busy with college. Then one day she called me out of the blue insisting that she wanted us to meet and she would be in town over the weekend. I was too excited to hear from her that I did not ask any questions, I simply asked for a place and time and looked forward to our reconnecting. Two days before our meeting, I sat in a Statistics class too distracted to pay attention. All I could do was imagine how our meeting would go, how she would make fun of my short hair. I wondered what she had done with hers, we always wanted to color our hairs something crazy while in coll ege but I had stopped wanting that. The lecturer disrupted my thoughts as he called out my name. I raised my head up from the scribbling I was doing on my notebook to respond. Next to the lecturer were these two men who wanted to talk me outside the classroom. I walked out grateful for a chance to walk out as I felt I was not being productive in the class. Once outside, I got the most shocking news of my life and up to this day, I still have trouble coming to terms with what the two men told me.

Why Parents Should Home School Essay example -- Essays Papers

Why Parents Should Home School When Americans think of education, they almost automatically think of public education. However, education in our public schools has been on a down slope for over twenty years now. This is because many parents today are deciding to home school their children. Although most people think that a public education is better, statistics and facts tend to show that home schooling is beneficial in more ways. Since the beginning of civilization, children have been learning in and with their families. Children learned how to survive and make a living through life with their families and in the community. Parent’s taught their children everything they needed to know or established them in private school or apprenticeships. Until about 150 years ago, this was considered the norm of society (Lahrson-Fisher 49). The term â€Å"home schooling† began to flourish in the 1970’s when it found a place in the dictionary. For many people, this was the only option because public schools were too far away to attend. There is over a fifteen percent rise in home schooled students each year. A majority of home schooled students are white middle-class families, but minorities are finding that this option is also better for their children (School Choice). It is estimated that there are currently two million children home schooled in the United States (School Choice). The number of children being home schooled increased from 32,804 in 2000 to 53,216 in 2003 (Brown 1). There are three basic reasons parents keeps their children out of public schools. First, they think that raising their children is their business and not the governments. Second, they enjoy being with their children and watching and helpin... ... admissions policies for children that are taught at home (School Choice). What was once looked down upon has become a popular alternative to public schooling. There various reasons why children should be home schooled. Children will have time for sporting activities, musical groups, church and youth organizations, field trips, volunteer opportunities, arts and crafts workshops, neighborhood activities and more. Home schooling provides time for family support of critical areas of social development: love, self-discipline, security, independence, and responsible use of freedoms (Lahrson-Fisher 24). Current statistics and facts show that home schooling is highly beneficial. Parents simply want is the best for their child. Through home schooling, this want can be met. In closing, home schooling offers numerous advantages and opportunities over public schools.

Mary the Mother of Jesus Christ In the Qur’an

The genealogy of Mary the mother of Jesus according to Ali, 1935, started from the bloodline of Moses and Aaron’s father Imran and wife Hannah( 131).   Imran’s wife Hannah (Anne) was very excited that she conceived of a child so she offered it to God’s service again even when it was still in her womb (132). Hannah was thinking it was a male (132). After giving birth and realizing it was a baby girl, Hannah named her Mary (132).   The people cast lots with bows and arrows and disputed over the care of the baby girl Mary (134). Hannah then sought God’s guidance, protection and sustenance for her daughter Mary because during those times the Mosaic Law was in force and it prohibits females from temple service (132). After realizing that God must have plans for giving her a baby girl, she was inspired to commit Mary to the care of people who was directly related to her family. Hannah entrusted Mary to a priest Zacchariya who was already an old man and wife Elizabeth.   Elizabeth was her cousin as she was the daughter of Aaron (132).   She was already past her menopausal age so she does not have a child at the moment (132).   Zacchariya and Elizabeth took Mary just like their very own and housed her in a place that was secured and protected from harm (132).  Ã‚   Every now and then just like a real daughter, Zacchariya would check on the condition of Mary in her room (132).   Zacchariya would offer her food and other needs but all the time Mary was found to have abundant supply (132).   As a priest Zacchariya could not question Mary’s faith (132). Mary never lack in any material needs (132).   When Mary was asked where she got all those stuff, her answer would be God provided her everything she needs (132).   This kind of secluded life, a life away from socialization was the lot of Mary the daughter of Imran and Hannah up until she was about twelve when lo and behold! Angels who were in human form from nowhere appeared (134). They said God has picked you above all women on earth (134). At first she was adamant and scared and so she sought God’s help (771).   She then pleaded for them not to approach her until after she could veil herself up (771). Covered with a veil she conceded talking to her visitors (771).   The visitors informed Mary that they were messengers of God and they are here tasked to deliver to her some lessons to learn (134). They taught her whom to worship alone (134).   The visitors who were actually angels in human form taught her also how to properly prepare herself before worship and the proper way of doing worship to God (134).   She was told to bow down like a Muslim does and stand humble before God as those Muslims who bow down and worship God Alone (134).   She was very obedient and receptive that she followed all that they taught her (134).   So, the angels went away.   After sometime, one of them name Jibril (Gabriel) came back (134).   He said, this time he has a new message from God (134).   Mary was told that she will conceive of a child (134).   Of course she was stunned and dumbfounded (134). But the angel relieved her by saying only through the words of God â€Å"Be and it is†, then, this will be realized (134).   She submitted to the call but she added in her innocence saying, how will I ever get pregnant when I do not have any relationship with any male (135)?   The Angel answered that it is up to God on how to go about it (135).   Whatever God plans, it can happen there is no question on that (135).   The angels told her that she will be pregnant with a boy.   This boy she will have to name Christ Jesus (Isa), the son of Mary (134).   Mary conceived while she was in Nazareth of Galilee some 65 miles North of Jerusalem (772).   Because this pregnancy condition was a taboo in her country and people, and people would kill her for immorality, Mary must keep herself away from the probing kinsfolk and neighbors (772). So she was led by the Angel to a place called Bethlehem, around six miles South of Jerusalem (772). She stayed in seclusion until she delivered Jesus nine months later (772).   Mary was all alone when she delivered her child, so, she held on to the trunk of a palm tree to pull her strength up as she felt the pangs of birth and she cried because of pain that she said to herself, it could have been better if she died before and just laid to rest (772), but she was able to push out the baby successfully.   Alas! She heard a voice telling her not to be sad and to quench her thirst, wipe away her tears, and cool herself down with the spring water just flowing beneath the palm tree, and if she shakes the trunk of the tree the ripe dates would fall down for her to eat with delight (772). Amr bin Maymun said, â€Å"Nothing is better for the woman confined in childbed than dried dates and fresh dates† (http://www.tafsir.com/). When Mary regained her composure, she was also instructed not to talk to anyone, and if ever there are those who persist, just to tell them with a hand sign that she was fasting (772).   The area where she delivered Jesus was an obscure place and so she was thought to have moved the child to the manger in a stable (772). After gaining back her much needed strength and confidence, she decided to go back to her hometown carrying along the baby Jesus (773). But, to her dismay, her towns mate slapped on her face the fact that she was the sister of Aaron and that her father was not a bad man so as her mother was not a bad woman (773).   To all these however she did not say anything, but, she just pointed out her finger to the child she was carrying (773).   The people said how on earth a child can talk to us (773).   And to their amazement, the baby Jesus on her mother’s arms talked (773).   This was in defense of His mother Mary whose chastity was a special virtue and became an ideal for all nations to learn (843). Grounded Theory -- Definition and Overview in Sociology

Grounded theory is a research methodology that results in the production of a theory that explains patterns in data, and that predicts what social scientists might expect to find in similar data sets. When practicing this popular social science method, a researcher begins with a set of data, either quantitative or qualitative, then identifies patterns, trends, and relationships among the data. Based on these, the researcher constructs a theory that is grounded in the data itself. This research method differs from the traditional approach to science, which begins with a theory and the seeks to test it through the scientific method. As such, grounded theory can be described as an inductive method, or a form of inductive reasoning. Sociologists  Barney Glaser and Anselm Strauss popularized this method in the 1960s, which they and many others considered an antidote to the popularity of deductive theory, which is often speculative in nature, seemingly disconnected from the realities of social life, and may, in fact, go untested. In contrast, the grounded theory method produces a theory that is based on scientific research. (To learn more, see Glaser and Strausss 1967 book,  The Discovery of Grounded Theory.) Grounded Theory Grounded theory allows researchers to be scientific and creative at the same time, as long as the researchers follow these guidelines: Periodically step back and ask questions.  The researcher needs to step back once in a while and ask the following questions: What is going on here? Does what I think I see fit the reality of the data? Data does not lie, so the researcher needs to make sure their own ideas about what is happening matches what the data is telling them, or the researcher may need to alter their idea of what is going on.Maintain an attitude of skepticism.  All theoretical explanations, hypotheses, and questions about the data should be regarded as preliminary, whether they come from the literature, experience, or making comparisons. They should always be checked out against the data and never accepted as fact.Follow the research procedures.  Research procedures (data collection, analysis, etc.) are designed to give precision and accuracy to a study. They also help the researcher break through biases and lead him or her to examine some of his or her assumptions that might otherwise be unrealistic. Therefore, it is important that the correct research procedures are followed so that an accurate conclusion is reached. With these principles in mind, a researcher can construct a grounded theory in eight basic steps. Pick a research area, topic, or population of interest, and form one or more research questions about it.Collect data using a scientific method.Look for patterns, themes, trends, and relationships among the data in a process called open coding.Begin to construct your theory by writing theoretical memos about the codes that emerge from your data, and the relationships among codes.Based on what you have discovered so far, focus on the most relevant codes and review your data with them in mind in a process of selective coding. Conduct more research to gather more data for the selected codes as needed.Review and organize your memos to allow the data and your observations of them to shape an emergent theory.Review related theories and research and figure out how your new theory fits within it.Write your theory and publish it.
